Orndorff Legacy Fund

The STA’s Orndorff Legacy Fund is committed to a enduring future for the STNRT. The Orndorff Legacy Fund was established to enable "legacy" gifts to the STA that will be used to insure the future of the STA and the work the Association performs. Only the interest drawn on the principal can be used for programs, staff support, and other initiatives within the STA.

If you would like to become a part of the legacy of inspiring and empowering people to hike, bike, ride on the Trace, please consider making the STA Orndorff Legacy Fund a beneficiary in your will or estate plans. Your gift will help build a permanenct source of support that will keep the STA’s mission alive and strong into the future.

To make a monetary donation to the Sheltowee Forever - Legacy Fund select the appropriate level. If you would like to leave property or long term legacy gifts please talk with your financial adviser. The STA is a register 501(c)3 nonprofit. All gifts are tax-deductible.

Gary Rue Access Fund

The Gary Rue Access and Development Fund was established by the Board of Directors to honor a fallen member of the STA, Gary Rue of Frankfort, Ky. Gary died tragically while hiking on the Trace. He was an avid support and believer in the work of the STA. You can honor him as well by making your tax deductible gift to this fund. Click the button below and you can help us connect the Trace in the north and south to the National Trails System, continue to see trail improvements, and additional infrastructure added to make your Trace experience the best we can.

"Leadership is the capacity to translate vision into reality."
—Warren Bennis

The STA continues on the path toward the support of full-time professional leadership. Each year, as the demands and opportunities increase, we work to increase our financial support to the leadership of the organization so they have the tools to meet the challenges just over the next horizon. With your tax-deductible gift to the Leadership Development Fund, you are helping us ensure the funds are there each year to support our staff.

The Martin Outdoor Recreation Fund

Established in honor of Karen (Class of 2017) and David Martin.

The board of directors of the Sheltowee Trace Association has established a fund honoring STA lifetime members, Karen and David Martin, their lifelong passion for the outdoors, and the years spent encouraging users young and old to adventure out into the forest.

The Karen and David Martin Outdoor Recreation Fund is accepting donations in honor of the Martins. Karen is a member of the STA Hiker Challenge Class of 2017. David has a few more sections to complete to earn his End to End recognition.

Donations will support programs that introduce boys and girls, families who have limited or no experience to the amazing experiences awaiting them in the outdoors.

Participates will join outdoor opportunities that are structured, designed to introduce participants to the Sheltowee Trace in the Daniel Boone National Forest and the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area. An example would be our Introduction to Backpacking Program where beginners, the inexperienced are taken into the woods for a weekend and are taught the basics of backpacking and surviving in the woods.

Your donations to The Martin Fund will 100% go toward support the STA"s effort to introduce the Trace and adventure activities to those who might not have the resources to get out into the woods. Click the link below to donate through our secure Go Fund Me page honoring the Martins.

Designate Your IRA Charitable Distribution to the STA Legacy Fund.

Ensure the Future of the STA!

If you are 70½ years old or older, there is a simple way to help the STA and receive tax benefits in return. You can donate any amount up to $100,000 per person per year from your IRA directly to a qualified institution like the STA without paying income taxes on the donation. This gift option is often called the IRA charitable rollover, but you may also see it referred to as a qualified charitable distribution or simply QCD for short.

Why Consider This Gift?

  • You pay no income taxes on the donation. The transfer generates neither taxable income nor a tax deduction, so you benefit even if you do not itemize your deductions.

  • If you reached the age of 70½ on or before Dec. 31, 2019, you can use your gift to satisfy all or part of your required minimum distribution for the year. If you turn 70½ on or after Jan. 1, 2020, you can use your gift to satisfy all or part of your required minimum distribution starting at the age of 72. (Note: The RMD requirement has been waived for 2020, per the CARES Act signed into law on March 27, 2020.)

  • Since the gift doesn’t count as income, it can reduce your annual income level. This may help lower your Medicare premiums and decrease the amount of Social Security that is subject to tax.

Next Steps?

  • Seek the advice of your financial or legal advisor.

  • Ask your IRA administrator about making a direct transfer to the Sheltowee Trace Association or have the administrator send a check from your account to us. (To be tax-free, the donation must go directly from your account to the Sheltowee Trace Association without passing through your hands.)

  • Legal name: Sheltowee Trace Association
    Address: P.O. Box 6530, Florence KY 41042
    Federal tax ID number: 27-1471336

eBay Giving Works

What Is eBay Giving Works?

eBay Giving Works was designed to make it easy for eBay users (buyers and sellers) to support important causes—in the U.S. and abroad. Today, it enables sellers to donate a portion of their sales—and buyers to shop—while also supporting their favorite charities. This also gives nonprofits an opportunity to engage new supporters and broaden the support for their cause.

How Does eBay Giving Works…Work?

The process is simple: you’ll see the eBay Giving Works section when you go through the listing process. All you have to do is choose Sheltowee Trace Association and donation percentage (10-100%).

Next, when your items sell, your donation will be automatically collected through eBay’s nonprofit partner, PayPal Giving Fund, and you’ll automatically receive a tax receipt. PayPal Giving Fund then passes along 100% of your donation to the STA—and you’re done.

Kroger donates annually to participating organizations based on your percentage of spending as it relates to the total spending associated with all participating Kroger Community Rewards organizations.

Your tax-deductible donations to the STA will help ensure the Trace is open, accessible, and available for generations. Working with the land manager partners, the STA, with donated resources, builds stairs, bridges, shelters, and other infrastructure to increase awareness and use of the Trace.
