To qualify as a leader you must attend the online Core Leadership training followed by field participation with an established trail crew or hike trip.

The certification process requires each volunteer to complete the Core Leadership Class (a four-step program) - held online, Area Specific training (Trails or Hike), Basic First Aid (CPR), and participate in two maintenance or hiking events under the supervision of a certified leader.

The CORE leadership class will focus on: The Foundations of Outdoor Leadership, Skill Development, Leadership Styles, Risk Management, Field Safety. The program is open to everyone 18 years of age and older. Selection as a crew leader or hike leader is at the discretion of the STA Outdoor Recreation Team recommendation to the Executive Director.

The STA is hosting two CORE Leadership training events for volunteers seeking to serve as a trail crew or hike leader.
